Nations learn that Spain and Romano are dating. They become horrified because they believe Romano must be abusing Spain and that Spain is just too dense to realize this. Only...Romano really isn't. Yes, he's sarcastic and bad-tempered, but if Spain needs his help, he'll be right there for him, and he'd never forgive himself if he ever hit or abused Spain. In fact, being with Spain has softened his temper somewhat and he's often affectionate with him in private. But the nations don't know or don't believe this, so they resolve to break them up for Spain's "safety." Bonus #1: They see Romano displaying affection to Spain but willfully misinterpret it as evidence of abuse ("Romano just told Spain, "I love you, bastard"! That obviously means he's nothing but a bastard who rapes Spain in the name of 'love!'") Bonus #2: Romano becomes hurt (though he tries to hide it) when he learns about this plot, and even grows depressed and begins wondering if he really is that horrible a boyfriend to Spain. Bonus #3: Spain finds out and is initially confused, but when he learns that Romano feels hurt by their accusations, out comes ViolentlyProtectiveConquistador!Spain. Happy Spamano ending, please!
